The Hove Edge Bowling Working Men's’ Club

MEMBERSHIP - Costs & Regulations

The objects of The Club are to afford its members the means of social intercourse,

mutual helpfulness, mental and moral improvement and rational recreation.

(The wording may be a bit dated but we should all understand the basic meaning)

WE DO NOT ACCEPT MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS FROM ANYONE WHO

HAS BEEN BANNED/BARRED FROM ANY OTHER LICENCED PREMISES.

A candidate for election as a member must be at least 18 years of age and be

proposed and seconded by two members able to vouch for his/her respectability

and fitness to be a member. The candidate, proposer and seconder must put their

details on the application list on the club notice board in the main concert room.

The candidate should be on the list for at least one week prior to attending

the next available committee meeting.

All candidates have to appear before the committee.

This is a very informal introduction to the club and management committee

and should not be seen a some kind of a daunting "interview".

The membership subscription and joining fee must be paid at this meeting.

(meetings held every fortnight on a Monday evening and candidates are

invited in at approximately 8:30pm)

A one-off joining fee of £5.00 is payable plus an annual membership subscription of £10.00

( £5 for junior members ) due on 1st January.

As a full member you are also entitled to attend and vote at the club’s AGM held every

February and also to stand for election to committee.

Your wife/husband or partner will automatically be a “social member” which affords them the

use of most of the club facilities but, unless they become a full member by paying the

full membership fee, they can’t attend the AGM, stand for election or play snooker.

JUNIOR MEMBERS

16 to 18 year olds can become junior members for £5 per year and there are rules

governing junior member’s use of the snooker tables.

Junior members may not purchase intoxicants in the club, attend meetings or stand for

election to committee.

JUNIOR MEMBERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SIGN-IN GUESTS

OR BRING NON-MEMBERS INTO THIS CLUB.

****

Children are allowed in the club under your supervision.

The only night with a time limit for children is Saturday night when they should

be off the club’s premises by 9pm.

You must ensure that children respect the clubs facilities and furniture,

therefore, you must be in the same room as them,

i.e. they must not be left to play unsupervised in another room.

Excessive noise and running about must be controlled as we occasionally

get complaints from other members.

The Secretary or President has the power to order any member who misconducts

him/herself to be removed from the club. A member can be reprimanded,

suspended or expelled.

Full rules regarding these and other matters are in the Club's rule book,

a copy of which is given to every new member.
